Suspect in 2008 New Jersey Murder Cold Case Arrested

TRENTON, NJ—New developments have emerged in the 2008 cold case of Leroy Julious, who was fatally beaten in Ewing Township, thanks to persistent efforts by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the New Jersey Attorney General’s Cold Case Network. Breyon Goodman, 36, of Trenton, and Jason Howard, 41, have been charged with first-degree murder, felony murder, and robbery.

Goodman was apprehended in Trenton on April 15, 2024, by the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force, and a motion has been filed to detain him pending trial. Howard was served with complaints in Rhode Island, where he is currently incarcerated for an unrelated crime.

The charges stem from the May 9, 2008, incident where Ewing Police discovered Leroy Julious severely injured and later pronounced dead at the scene due to head trauma.

The case was revived in March 2023 after new information surfaced, leading to a reevaluation of all physical evidence, including DNA, with advanced forensic technology.

This renewed investigation has finally allowed charges to be brought, offering potential closure to Julious’ family after 16 years. Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin and Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri highlighted the relentless work and technological strides that have significantly contributed to these charges.
