Beacon, N.Y. – Police in the Hudson Valley responded to an incident where force was used against an individual who allegedly threatened to shoot people.

The episode took place in Dutchess County on Sunday, April 21, on Main Street in Beacon. According to Lt. Thomas Figlia of the Beacon Police, officers were called to the scene to address a man making threats while wearing gray sweatpants, a grey hoodie, and sunglasses.

Review of body camera footage revealed an officer locating the man, brandishing a patrol rifle, and instructing the man to put his hands against a wall, which the man initially refused to do.

Additional officers arrived to place handcuffs on the suspect. Despite resistance in which the suspect pulled his arm away, officers eventually immobilized him using a technique known as body segmenting. Headed by Figlia, an investigation is underway to address the motivation behind the suspect’s actions, with charges currently pending.

A search of the area yielded no firearms. Witnesses to the incident have been contacted, and a comprehensive investigation into the use of force is ongoing. The suspect’s identity has not been disclosed due to the absence of charges at this time.
