RIVERSIDE, NY – A violent incident involving a machete assault prompted a swift response from law enforcement on Friday afternoon in Riverside. Southampton Town Police Detective Sgt. Lisa Costa reported that officers were dispatched to a residence on Pine Street just before 3:10 PM following a 911 call about a man assaulting another with a machete.
Upon arrival, officers found a 24-year-old man suffering from a severe head wound and covered in blood. The victim received immediate medical attention from the police until the Flanders Ambulance transported him to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead.
The assailant, armed with a machete, barricaded himself inside the residence, leading to the deployment of the Southampton Town Emergency Service Unit, New York State Police, and hostage negotiators from both departments. After a tense standoff, the situation concluded just after 11:30 PM when 35-year-old Adonias Estrada-Sinay from Riverside was arrested and charged.
