Nicholas Koontz, 35, has been found guilty of manslaughter with a firearm following a three-day trial in Manatee County, which concluded on Wednesday, October 16. According to the Florida State Attorney’s Office for the 12th Judicial Circuit, Koontz shot and killed Timothy Andricks in what was described as an apparent road rage altercation in West Bradenton on October 12, 2021.

The conflict arose when Andricks reportedly hurled a paper cup filled with ice and soda at Koontz’s vehicle during their drive. Subsequently, Koontz pursued Andricks to a residential street where, upon exiting their respective vehicles, Koontz fatally shot Andricks multiple times.

Koontz, who was promptly arrested, maintained silence during his arrest and initial interactions with law enforcement.

However, during the trial, Koontz claimed that his actions were in self-defense. Surveillance footage from a witness’s ring camera provided further insight into the incident, capturing the fatal shooting as Andricks was walking back to his car after both vehicles had come to a stop. Witnesses were also able to provide partial license plate numbers that led authorities to Koontz’s residence, where his father confirmed his agitated state upon arrival.

Potential consequences for Koontz include up to 30 years of imprisonment, with the sentencing date yet to be determined.
