Atlantic City Mayor and Wife Charged with Child Abuse

The case alleges the Mayor hit his daughter in the head with a broom, knocking her out.

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — Marty Small, the Mayor of Atlantic City, and his wife La’Quetta Small have been charged with multiple counts of abuse against their teenage daughter.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office announced on Monday that both parents face charges of endangering the welfare of a child. Additionally, Mayor Small is charged with making terroristic threats, aggravated assault, and simple assault, while La’Quetta Small faces three separate counts of simple assault.

The charges stem from incidents reported to have occurred on multiple occasions between December 2023 and January 2024. According to the prosecutor’s office, the couple is accused of both physical and emotional abuse of their daughter, who is 15/16 years old.

Among the alleged abuses, the mayor is accused of hitting his daughter in the head with a broom, which reportedly rendered her unconscious.
