Queens, NY—Ryszard Materna has been arraigned on weapon possession charges after law enforcement officials uncovered a cache of illegal firearms, including ghost guns and assault weapons, during a search of his Rockaway Beach residence.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz issued a statement emphasizing the severity of the situation and the ongoing efforts to combat illegal gun possession in the city.

District Attorney Katz emphasized the dangers posed by individuals who procure and assemble deadly weapons through online orders, warning that such actions will be met with legal consequences. With a significant number of ghost guns recovered this year alone, law enforcement agencies remain vigilant in their pursuit of illegal firearms and those involved in their acquisition and distribution.

New York City Police Commissioner Edward A. Caban echoed the District Attorney’s sentiments, highlighting the seriousness of manufacturing untraceable ghost guns and reaffirming the commitment of the NYPD to address gun violence in the city. Collaborative efforts between the NYPD and the Queens District Attorney’s office underscore the resolve to tackle such cases head-on.

Materna, 51, residing on Beach 117th Street in Rockaway Park, faced arraignment on a multitude of charges, including criminal possession of weapons, manufacture and sale of firearms, endangering the welfare of a child, and other related offenses. The extensive list of charges reflects the gravity of the allegations against him and the comprehensive legal action being pursued in response to the discovery of illegal firearms in his possession.
