QUEENS, NY—Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced the sentencing of Leo Daley, 23, to 19 years in prison for a shooting incident at the Kew Motor Inn in September 2022. Daley, from Springfield Gardens, was convicted of attempted murder and other charges after a jury trial.
The incident occurred early in the morning on September 15, 2022, when Daley, masked and armed, entered the Kew Motor Inn lobby and subsequently shot 25-year-old Terrell Chery. Chery, who was severely injured, required surgical intervention due to the gunshot wounds. Another individual, Mylord Williams, narrowly escaped harm during the attack.
Daley, who had been on parole, fled to New Jersey after the shooting but was later extradited back to New York. The sentencing reflects the serious nature of the crimes and the potential for even greater harm, as highlighted by DA Katz’s remarks on the dangers of illegal firearms and violent crime.
