New Jersey Congressman Hospitalized After Heart Attack

WASHINGTON, DC — A New Jersey congressman remains hospitalized and reportedly remains unconscious after suffering a cardiac episode triggered by diabetes last week.

It is unclear exactly when Payne was hospitalized. Still, staffers reported the incident on Wednesday after a report in the New Jersey Globe speculated a cover-up of the incident.

Representative Donald Payne Jr., D-N.J., remains in the hospital due to a cardiac episode early this month, which was triggered by complications from diabetes, according to his office.

“Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. suffered a cardiac episode based on complications from his diabetes last week.  Today, he is in stable condition at a local hospital and is under doctor’s care.  While we hope for a full recovery, we ask everyone to keep him in your prayers,” staffers posted.

According to his staff, the congressman’s condition is stable, and he continues receiving medical care at a local hospital. This update follows a previous statement from his office noting his improvement and a positive prognosis with an anticipated full recovery.

According to a previously released statement, “Currently, he is recovering in the hospital as doctors conduct routine exams to monitor and observe his improvement. “The Congressman’s prognosis is good, and he is expected to recover fully.”

The New Jersey Globe today reported, “Donald Payne remains unconscious eleven days after a heart attack. Congressman’s condition is more severe than initially stated.”
