Frederick Police Capture Suspects Following Gunfire Incident

FREDERICK, MD—The Frederick Police Department reported the successful apprehension of two suspects involved in a firearms discharge incident that occurred in Frederick City. The incident took place at approximately 6:14 p.m. on April 14, 2024, near S. Pendleton Ct.

Officers were dispatched to the scene following reports of gunshots and were aided by descriptions provided by an eyewitness. The suspects, identified as two Hispanic males, were seen moving from the area of Hill Street Park toward Pendleton Ct. Fortunately, there were no injuries or damage reported as a result of the gunfire.

Officer Haynie of the FPD’s Patrol Squad D and a Sheriff’s Deputy located and pursued two individuals matching the witness’s descriptions behind Pendleton Ct. One suspect, 21-year-old Abel Antonio Castillo of Frederick, was captured in the 100 block of Tillman Pl. A handgun, believed to be discarded by Castillo during the chase, was found nearby, along with two 9mm bullets on his person.

The second suspect, 22-year-old Hedbby Abddy Ramirez Maldonado, also of Frederick, was apprehended after a foot chase near S. Pendleton Ct and W. Thornhill Pl. It was discovered that Ramirez Maldonado had an active warrant for failing to appear in court.

Both suspects were medically cleared at Frederick Health Hospital before being transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center (FCADC), where they are currently being held without bond.
