During a recent speech, President Joe Biden shared a moving yet distressing story about his uncle, Ambrose Finnegan, affectionately known as Uncle Bozey. According to Biden, his uncle was a pilot in the Army Air Corps during a time before the U.S. Air Force was established. Uncle Bozey tragically disappeared during a reconnaissance mission in New Guinea, an area known at the time for its cannibalistic tribes.
His plane was shot down, and despite later efforts to locate any remains or wreckage, his body was never recovered.
The story took a political turn when Biden juxtaposed his uncle’s sacrifice with former President Donald Trump’s alleged controversial remarks regarding American veterans.
Biden suggested his uncle was eaten by cannibals.
According to CNN, “There was, in fact, documented cannibalism in the region in the mid-20th century. But the DPAA entry for Finnegan says three men “failed to emerge from the sinking wreck and were lost in the crash,” and that an aerial search the following day “found no trace of the missing aircraft or the lost crew members.”
The Associated Press confirmed, “The U.S. government’s record of missing service members does not attribute Finnegan’s death to hostile action or indicate cannibals were any factor.”
