Richmond Reminds Minors of Nightly Curfew

RICHMOND, VA — The Richmond Police Department is reminding parents and guardians of the city’s curfew laws for juveniles, urging the community to help keep young people safe. The curfew, applicable to unemancipated minors under 18, is enforced from 11 PM to 5 AM nightly, with several exceptions in place.

Minors may be exempt from curfew if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, on an emergency errand as directed by a parent or guardian, involved in an emergency, employed during curfew hours, or attending or returning from a school, religious, or civic activity. Additionally, minors are allowed within 25 feet of their residence during curfew hours.

Violations of the curfew law include minors being in public places or establishments during curfew hours, parents or guardians allowing their minors to break curfew, and proprietors allowing minors to remain on premises during curfew hours. The Richmond Police Department emphasizes the importance of adherence to these rules to ensure the safety of the community’s youth.
