Annual Community Cleanup Event Scheduled in Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The “Great Jersey City Cleanup” is set for Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. across all six wards. Mayor Steven M. Fulop, alongside the Department of Public Works and the Office of Cultural Affairs, has announced this year’s cleanup initiative which encourages residents, officials, and local organizations to participate.

This annual event, which began in 2016, has drawn nearly 5,000 volunteers who have collectively removed 18 tons of trash and recyclables from the city’s public spaces. Mayor Fulop emphasized the event’s role in promoting community pride and environmental responsibility.

Volunteers will be involved in various activities such as litter collection, graffiti removal, and park maintenance. John Lynch, Director of Administrative Services at DPW, stated that the event aims to improve the city’s cleanliness and appearance significantly.

Event locations include Columbia Park in Ward A, Lincoln Park in Ward B, Journal Square Plaza in Ward C, Riverview Park in Ward D, Hamilton Park in Ward E, and Arlington Park in Ward F. Omni Aviv, head of the Office of Community Engagement and Volunteerism, highlighted the ongoing commitment to a cleaner, healthier Jersey City.
