TOMS RIVER, NJ – Bad actors from North Jersey’s inner cities have been targeting homes in Toms River in recent months and the community here has had enough of it. Several home invasions were reported in the past few weeks, that involved violence and thefts.
Several vehicles have been stolen, and others have broken into. Still, several other home invasion attempts were thwarted by home surveillance systems, locked doors, and the homeowners themselves.
Now, Orthodox Jewish community members have announced they will be forming a Toms River civilian safety patrol. The patrol will operate in neighborhoods, looking out for suspicious activities and reporting them to the Toms River Police Department. They will operate in a similar manner to the Lakewood Civilian Safety Watch, but organizers say they are not affiliated with LCSW.
The new Shomrim unit is expected to be announced and formalized in the near future.
