TRENTON, NJ — Assemblyman Paul Kanitra (R-Ocean) has announced plans to deliver a comprehensive report on illegal immigration to New Jersey residents, following an upcoming research trip to the U.S. southern border.

In a recent video, Kanitra criticized New Jersey’s sanctuary state policies, which he claims encourage illegal immigration by offering extensive benefits, ultimately impacting state finances and community safety. He described the current situation as an “apocalyptic environment” and expressed his intent to propose legislative and executive actions based on the findings from his trip.

The report will leverage data from state, federal, and nonprofit sources, detailing the fiscal and societal implications of illegal immigration in New Jersey. Current estimates place the undocumented immigrant population in New Jersey between 478,000 and 700,000.

Kanitra highlighted the challenges faced by law enforcement due to state policies limiting interactions with ICE, contrasting with national efforts where ICE removed over 3,400 suspected gang members and 148 suspected terrorists last year.

Kanitra, who will fund his research trip personally, plans to meet with various stakeholders at the border, including Texas border czar Mike Banks and Val Verde County Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez. He intends to provide updates during his trip and finalize recommendations upon his return.
