FT. WASHINGTON, MD — A Prince George’s County man nearly clinched the Powerball jackpot but still managed to walk away with a $50,000 third-tier prize from the March 31 drawing.

The fortunate player, who frequently participates in jackpot games, claimed his prize at the Lottery headquarters in Baltimore last week. His winning ticket was bought at the Oxon Hill Citgo in Prince George’s County, as part of his routine purchase of Powerball, Mega Millions, and scratch-off tickets. The drawing that almost made him a millionaire had an estimated annuity jackpot of $975 million for April 1.

It wasn’t until April 2 that he realized his win, initially discovering something amiss when his ticket-checking app advised him to consult a retailer. A further online check confirmed his $50,000 windfall by matching four white balls and the red Powerball. The winner, a single father with adult children, intends to use his earnings to pay bills and continues to hope for a jackpot win in the future.
