JACKSON TOWNSHIP, NJ – Nicholas Obrzut, 21, of Monroe Township, has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault and three counts of Assault by Auto due to his involvement in a severe motor vehicle accident that occurred on January 27, in Jackson Township. Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer made the announcement on April 3, following a comprehensive investigation into the crash.
In the early hours of January 27, at approximately 2:15 a.m., Jackson Township Police Department officers responded to a serious crash on North County Line Road. The investigation determined that Obrzut, while driving a 2020 BMW with three passengers, failed to manage a curve, resulting in the vehicle striking a median, rolling several times, and finally halting against trees. Passengers Michael Russo, Anthony Zito, and Ryan Ludwig sustained various injuries but have since been released from the hospital.
Analysis of a blood sample from Obrzut, obtained through a court-authorized warrant, indicated high levels of THC, suggesting recent marijuana use and impairment at the time of the accident. The vehicle was also found to be traveling at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour in a 50 mph zone under low visibility conditions due to fog.
Following these findings, Obrzut was arrested at his home without incident on April 3 and was transported to the Ocean County Jail. He was later released in line with New Jersey’s Bail Reform
