BOSTONA Worcester resident admits to significant drug and firearm offenses in federal court.

Jose Rivera, 24, entered a guilty plea for multiple charges, including possession of a machinegun, receipt of a firearm by a person under indictment for a felony, cocaine distribution, and possessing a firearm in drug trafficking. His sentencing is set for June 28, 2024, by U.S. District Court Judge Margaret R. Guzman following his June 2023 indictment.

Investigations led to a March 2023 search of Rivera’s home, uncovering three Glock switches, capable of converting semi-automatic pistols into automatic weapons, along with a large capacity of ammunition and $9,000 in cash. Additionally, Rivera was found with cocaine and distribution paraphernalia, highlighting his involvement in drug trafficking.

The charges against Rivera carry severe penalties, including up to 10 years for the machinegun possession, up to five years for receiving a firearm under indictment, and up to 20 years for cocaine distribution, with the firearm charge in connection with drug trafficking requiring a minimum five-year consecutive sentence. Sentencing considerations will follow guidelines and statutory factors.
