WILMINGTON, DE—Delaware State Police have apprehended 54-year-old Mark Coney of Wilmington following a robbery at a Family Dollar store in Wilmington.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, around 12:45 p.m. at the Family Dollar located at 1311 Newport Gap Pike. Authorities were called to the scene after a robbery was reported. The investigation indicated that Coney, initially involved in a shoplifting incident, turned aggressive when confronted by store employees about concealing items in his jacket. A physical altercation broke out, and Coney fled the store.
Outside, Coney retrieved a baseball bat from his black four-door sedan and returned, threatening employees and obstructing the store’s front doors with the bat to prevent them from being closed. Despite his efforts, employees managed to secure the doors, and Coney departed the scene in his vehicle.
