TRENTON, NJ – Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin has assumed authority over the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office and appointed Anthony Picione as the Acting Warren County Prosecutor. This change follows the immediate resignation of James Pfeiffer.
Anthony Picione, previously Deputy Director of the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA), steps into the role with a near twenty-four-year record in fighting corruption and serving the public interest. Platkin commended Picione’s dedication to justice and his well-earned public trust, emphasizing the importance of county prosecutors in safeguarding New Jersey’s public safety.
Picione expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by Attorney General Platkin and anticipation for contributing to the safety and justice of Warren County. His career spans from 1999 in the Division of Criminal Justice, where he notably led efforts against corruption and government fraud, securing significant convictions and recouping millions for the state.
Picione’s notable cases include the successful prosecution of the Birdsall Services Group for public contract fraud and money laundering, leading to convictions and over $4 million in recoveries. He also secured a conviction against a state assemblyman for distributing child sexual abuse material and recouped public funds misused by a high-ranking official of the New Jersey Commerce and Economic Growth Commission.
