Shooting in Utica Leads to Two Dead, Including Suspect

UTICA, NY — A devastating series of events unfolded on the evening of April 2, when Utica Police and Fire units responded to reports of gunfire and injuries in the 400 block of Kingston Rd.

At approximately 7:30 PM, authorities were alerted to the situation involving multiple victims. The first officer on scene was met with a male armed with a rifle, who fired upon the officer and then retreated into a nearby residence.

Inside the home, police discovered the armed individual had inflicted a fatal gunshot wound to himself. Meanwhile, at the initial location, a male with leg injuries and a fatally wounded woman were found, alongside a two-year-old child who was promptly secured and unharmed.

The male victim, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to Wynn Hospital for treatment. The deceased woman, found to have suffered numerous gunshot wounds, was identified as a former romantic partner of the gunman, with the uninjured child being theirs. The injured male was later identified as the grandfather of the suspect.
