NEWARK, DE — A 20-year-old Newark resident, Jack Engelmann, was arrested for DUI after his vehicle collided with a Newark Police Department vehicle during a traffic stop. The incident occurred on March 30, 2024, around 11:24 PM on South Main Street near Beverly Road.

The police officer, who was conducting a traffic stop in a fully marked 2016 Chevrolet Silverado with emergency lights activated, was inside the vehicle when Engelmann’s 2017 Hyundai rear-ended it. Following an investigation at the scene, Engelmann was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

Engelmann faced multiple charges, including driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to maintain lane, failure to move over for a stopped emergency vehicle, and underage possession/consumption of alcohol. He was released pending a future court appearance in Newark Alderman’s Court #40.

The collision resulted in a minor injury to the police officer, who did not require medical attention. Neither Engelmann nor the individual involved in the initial traffic stop sustained injuries.
