Watch: Woman Rescued After Jumping from Yonkers Pier

YONKERS, NY – A retired Yonkers Police Department member’s alertness led to the dramatic rescue of a woman from the waters of the downtown waterfront area on Wednesday evening.

The incident unfolded when the retired officer noticed a pair of shoes, glasses, and a note left on the pier, raising concerns of a possible suicide attempt. Yonkers police were notified around the early evening hours. The AWARE Crime Control Center promptly reviewed surveillance footage, confirming that a woman had jumped into the water shortly before the discovery.

Officers from the 3rd and 4th Precincts, together with the Emergency Service Unit, were dispatched to the scene. The woman was found trapped under the dock. The Emergency Service Unit immediately formulated and executed a rescue plan. Officers Park, Ascolillo, Thomas, and Fernandez secured safety lines, while Officers Rotondo, Waldron, and Sgt Barca performed the water rescue.

The operation culminated with the woman being safely brought to a nearby dock, where she was handed over to medical personnel. After receiving treatment at a local hospital, she was reported to be in stable condition.
