PHILADELPHIA, PA – A protest by the “Party for Socialism and Liberation” on westbound 676 at Broad St resulted in significant traffic disruptions. The Philadelphia Police Department reported that the protest began shortly before 4 PM, with around 350 participants taking to the highway.
Police ended up shutting down the Ben Franklin Bridge until the protest was cleared.
The majority of the protesters, about 320, eventually left the highway peacefully and continued their demonstration through Center City. However, a few remained on 676, leading to police intervention and arrests by the Pennsylvania State Police. Those detained are being processed at the state barracks in Belmont.
In addition to the state police’s actions, the Philadelphia Police Department has arrested at least two individuals, issuing them citations. Authorities maintained a strong presence at the scene to manage the situation, with the Port Authority overseeing the bridge’s security.
Further updates on the protest and any additional arrests will be provided as information becomes available. For more details on the number arrested by the Pennsylvania State Police, inquiries should be directed to PSP.
