PASADENA, MD – An incident involving police officers shooting a 61-year-old woman occurred on March 28, at approximately 1:35 PM, in the 8600 block of Gambier Harbor, Pasadena. The officers were responding to reports of an armed, suicidal individual within a residence. Upon their arrival, it was discovered that the subject had fatally shot a cat inside the home.
After initially stepping outside, the woman retreated back into her residence, only to re-emerge armed with a handgun. Despite multiple commands from the officers to disarm, the woman escalated the situation by aiming the firearm at them. In response, fearing for their safety, the officers fired their weapons, critically injuring the suspect. She was then transported to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in critical condition.
A firearm was retrieved at the scene, and the deceased cat was also found within the residence. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave as standard procedure, pending an investigation by the Office of Professional Standards.
