LAKEWOOD, NJ – A fire that erupted in a Lakewood building is now the focus of a thorough investigation. Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer reported that the incident occurred on March 28, drawing a swift response from local police and fire departments.
Emergency teams were called to Prospect Street at about 3:15 pm, where they found flames on a stairwell and the second floor. Firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze, preventing further damage.
The fire was reportedly started in a stairwell in the building with cardboard boxes.
The e Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Arson Squad, along with the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office, Lakewood Township Police, and the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office, is jointly investigating the cause of the fire, focusing on determining its origin and circumstances.
