PHILADELPHIA, PA – Dashawn Pringle, a 27-year-old Philadelphia resident, has been sentenced to over 10 years in prison for his involvement in two separate carjackings. Senior Judge Timothy J. Savage of the United States District Court handed down a sentence of 125 months’ imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release. Pringle was also ordered to pay a $300 special assessment and $1,250 in restitution.
The first incident occurred on April 23, 2022, when Pringle and an accomplice forcibly took a 2021 Honda Pilot from its owner on the 5100 block of Race Street. The victim was physically assaulted before the perpetrators fled with his vehicle, wallet, and car keys. The second carjacking took place in the early hours of May 1, 2022, targeting a ride-share driver. After a series of maneuvers designed to stop the victim’s 2018 Toyota Highlander, Pringle brandished a firearm and, with the help of a passenger, commandeered the victim’s vehicle.
Pringle’s guilty plea on November 28, 2023, encompassed two counts of carjacking and possession of ammunition by a felon. This case underscores the concerted efforts of law enforcement, including the Carjacking Task Force and the FBI Philadelphia Violent Crimes Task Force, to address and mitigate violent crime in Philadelphia. U.S. Attorney Romero and Special Agent in Charge Wayne A. Jacobs emphasized the importance of such sentences in maintaining public safety and deterring violent criminal behavior in the community.
