HOMOSASSA, FL – A Homosassa man faces charges after authorities discovered an illegal rooster fighting operation at his residence. Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Officers (ACO) acted on an anonymous tip last week, visiting the home on S Gross Ave.
Evidence of rooster fighting, including drugs to enhance the birds’ performance and recovery, training gear, and a specialized enclosure, was found on the premises. Jorge Lopez Abril, 51, was arrested for engaging in activities related to animal fighting. Animal control seized 36 birds, which are now under the care of the Citrus County Animal Shelter. The CCSO commends the ACOs for their decisive response to the situation.
