MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ – A lawsuit has been filed in Middlesex County Superior Court by Phillip Sgroi, a New Jersey resident, claiming he sustained serious burns from “excessively hot” coffee purchased at a Dunkin’ Donuts in Madison, Morris County, on February 11, 2022. Sgroi alleges the lid of the Styrofoam cup was not properly secured, leading to the scalding beverage spilling on him and causing both internal and external injuries.

The suit accuses Dunkin’ Donuts of serving coffee at a “dangerous” temperature and failing to warn customers of the risk, describing the hot coffee as a “hidden and unknown danger.” Sgroi asserts that the incident left him disabled and seeks compensation for his injuries. The case highlights ongoing concerns regarding the temperature of beverages served in fast-food outlets and the safety measures in place to prevent such accidents.
