Arrest Made in 2023 Baltimore Murder Case

BALTIMORE, MD — The Baltimore Police Department announced the arrest of 27-year-old Dayrel McFarland in connection with a murder investigation in the Western District. McFarland is accused of the murder of 37-year-old Jamal Barney, which occurred on October 2, 2023, in the 500 block of North Payson Street.

The investigation began after Western District patrol officers were called to a vacant home on the afternoon of October 2, following a report concerning the well-being of a missing person reported the previous day. Upon entry, officers discovered Barney’s body, showing signs of trauma. The remains were later identified at the Medical Examiner’s office.

McFarland was taken into custody on February 8, 2024, and has been charged with 1st-degree murder. He is currently being held at the Central Booking Intake Facility as the case progresses.
