ROXBURY, NJ—Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, along with other local law enforcement officials, announced the indictment of Auraceli A. Maldonado, 24, from Irvington, and Jean Omar Rockson, 33, from Orange, related to a shooting at the Roxbury Motel on October 18. The victim, a 36-year-old man, was shot in the leg but survived the attack.
Maldonado was arrested in November and has been in custody under the Criminal Justice Reform Act. Rockson was apprehended outside his home on February 15, and faces similar detention. They are charged with first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, aggravated assault, and weapons offenses following the incident at the Roxbury establishment on Route 46.
Upon receiving a distress call around 8:54 p.m. on the night of the incident, Roxbury Police swiftly located and aided the injured man, who was then hospitalized with severe, though non-fatal, injuries. Early investigations suggest the victim had arranged a meeting at the motel, which turned violent when an altercation over a firearm ensued, leading to the shooting.
