UTICA, NY – A routine traffic stop conducted by the Crime Prevention Unit on the evening of March 4th near the intersection of Genesee St and Oswego St led to the discovery of a loaded handgun on a juvenile. The stop, initiated due to violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law, escalated when officers noticed furtive movements and suspicious behavior from the front passenger, a known individual from recent gun violence incidents.

Upon further investigation and a pat frisk, officers discovered a loaded 9mm handgun in the waistband of the 16-year-old male passenger. He was immediately detained and transported to the Utica Police Department for further processing.

Given the individual’s juvenile status, the Juvenile Aid Unit is handling his case, and his identity has not been disclosed. The successful interception underscores the importance of vigilant law enforcement practices in maintaining community safety.
