Orange County, NY – Shirley Bowens, 50, of Wallkill, was sentenced to 2-6 years in prison for insurance fraud, as announced by Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler on February 27.

Bowens pleaded guilty to Grand Larceny in the Third Degree after it was discovered that she submitted fraudulent bills to her insurance company over a two-year period from 2019 to 2021. These bills falsely claimed hospitalizations and treatments for herself and her family members, resulting in a theft of approximately $90,000.

The New York State Department of Financial Services led the investigation into Bowens’s fraudulent activities as part of the Orange County White Collar Crime Task Force. District Attorney Hoovler praised the Task Force’s efforts in uncovering and prosecuting financial crimes, emphasizing the commitment to holding individuals accountable for such schemes.
