NEWARK, DE – A 17-year-old from New Castle, Delaware, has been arrested by the Delaware State Police following a violent altercation at the Christiana Mall. The incident, which took place on the evening of February 24, 2024, at around 6:07 p.m., involved several teenage males engaging in a fight that resulted in serious injuries.
Responding to reports of the fight, troopers arrived at the scene to find that a group of unknown teenagers had attacked a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old.
An argument escalated into physical violence when one of the assailants struck the 16-year-old and pushed him to the ground, attempting to leave. The group then proceeded to kick and punch the victim, prompting the 14-year-old to intervene, only to be pushed down and assaulted alongside his friend. The attackers fled towards the parking lot upon the approach of mall security.
One of the attackers, the 17-year-old from New Castle, was apprehended without further incident. The 14-year-old victim was transported to a hospital with serious injuries, while the 16-year-old suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The 17-year-old suspect has been released to a guardian pending further investigation into the extent of the injuries sustained by the younger victim. Authorities are currently seeking the remaining three suspects, described only as teenagers. Surveillance footage and images from the incident have not been made available as of yet.
