Queens, NY – Jessica Beauvais has been sentenced to more than 20 years in prison for a DUI hit-and-run that resulted in the death of NYPD Detective Anastasios Tsakos on the Long Island Expressway in Fresh Meadows.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz stated that Beauvais, who was driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana with a suspended license, sped through an NYPD roadblock, killing Detective Tsakos who was managing traffic around a previous fatal collision. The incident, occurring in the early hours of April 27, 2021, led to Tsakos’s death, who was struck by Beauvais’s vehicle, resulting in severe injuries including the severance of his left leg at the knee.

After a 13-day trial in October, Beauvais, 35, of Hempstead, was convicted of aggravated manslaughter in the second degree, vehicular manslaughter in the second degree, and leaving the scene of an incident without reporting. Queens Supreme Court Justice Michael Aloise sentenced Beauvais to consecutive terms, totaling over 20 years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision.
