Delaware Traffic Stop Leads to Felony Gun and Drug Charges

Hartly, DE – A routine traffic stop conducted by the Kent County Governor’s Task Force resulted in the arrest of 27-year-old Miguel Hernandes-Tovar of Marydel, Maryland, on the night of February 19, 2024. The operation, taking place in Hartly near the intersection of Hazlettville Road and Apple School Grove Road, revealed felony gun charges against Hernandes-Tovar.

Upon stopping a Buick for a registration violation around 10:45 p.m., detectives engaged with the occupants, identifying Hernandes-Tovar as the front passenger. During the stop, Hernandes-Tovar informed detectives of narcotics within the vehicle, leading to his detention. A search uncovered a concealed handgun in his pants pocket, alongside a Ruger 9mm handgun, a loaded magazine, approximately .392 grams of heroin, 28.82 grams of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

The female driver faced misdemeanor charges for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and was subsequently released. Hernandes-Tovar, however, was taken to Troop 3 for processing. He faces multiple charges, including felony possession of a firearm and drug-related offenses. Following arraignment by Justice of the Peace Court 7, Hernandes-Tovar was released on an $8,200 unsecured bond.
