Dover High School Incident Leads to Arrest of 15-Year-Old Student

Dover, DE – A 15-year-old male student has been arrested following a violent altercation at Dover High School on the morning of February 20, 2024. The Dover Police Department responded to the incident at approximately 11:58 a.m., after a fight broke out between the 15-year-old suspect and a 17-year-old male student.

During the altercation, the younger student brandished a pocket knife and inflicted a laceration on the arm of the 17-year-old. School staff quickly intervened, securing the knife and taking the assailant into custody without further incident. The injured student received initial treatment from the school’s staff and was later attended to by medical professionals outside of the school, under the care of a guardian.

Charges against the 15-year-old include Assault in the Second Degree and Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon in a Safe School and Recreation Zone. Following the incident, he was released to his guardian.

The Capital School District expressed gratitude towards the school’s safety constables, resource officers, and staff for their swift response and management of the situation, underscoring the importance of preparedness and training. Despite the disturbance, the high school was not placed on lockdown, and the district is actively working with law enforcement to conduct a thorough investigation.
