Man Brings Mortar Rounds to Florida Sheriff's Office Prompting Shutdown

The Hernando County Sheriff’s administrative offices at 18900 Cortez Boulevard in Brooksville are temporarily closed following an incident in the front parking lot. A citizen brought two mortar rounds to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) for disposal, prompting the closure.

Out of caution, the HCSO has enlisted the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Team to assess and safely dispose of the mortar rounds. Traffic near the Sheriff’s Office is being redirected, with no access down Sheriff Mylander Way until the situation is resolved and the area deemed safe.

Updates on the reopening of the offices will be provided by the HCSO. Residents are advised to follow detours and avoid the area to ensure safety.
