Camden, NJ – A 70-year-old volunteer suffered a fall while working on the Battleship New Jersey, resulting in an emergency response on Tuesday morning. Camden Fire Chief Jesse Flax reported that the incident occurred around 10 a.m. as the volunteer and a staff member were inspecting lights in a below-deck area available for tours.
The volunteer lost his footing and fell, hitting his head in the process. Although the injury was not severe, the battleship’s policy mandates an emergency medical response for any accidents occurring below deck. The injured volunteer was transported to Cooper Hospital, where he is recovering from minor injuries.
The Battleship New Jersey staff thanked the Camden City Fire Department, Cherry Hill Fire Department, Cooper University EMS, and the Camden County Dept of Public Safety for their prompt assistance and professionalism.
