NASA is currently inviting applications for its next CHAPEA (Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog) mission, a one-year simulated Mars surface mission, set to begin in spring 2025. This ground-based mission aims to support the agency’s preparation for human exploration of Mars. Participants will live and work in a 1,700-square-foot, 3D-printed habitat at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, facing challenges similar to those on Mars, such as resource limitations and communication delays.
The agency seeks healthy, motivated U.S. citizens or permanent residents aged 30-55, who are non-smokers and proficient in English. Ideal candidates will possess a master’s degree in a STEM field, professional experience, or pilot hours, with certain conditions allowing for consideration of those with a bachelor’s degree in STEM or military officer training. Compensation details will be provided during the candidate screening process.
This initiative is part of NASA’s broader Artemis campaign, which focuses on lunar exploration as a stepping stone to Mars. The deadline for applications is April 2. For more information and to apply, visit https://chapea.nasa.gov/.
