Man Gunned Down While Walking Down Street in Salisbury

SALISBURY, MD– A man was found shot dead while walking down the street in Salisbury this weekend.

On Friday, Maryland State Police were called to the scene of a fatal shooting in Wicomico County. The event unfolded around 8:10 p.m. in the 900 block of North Division Street, Salisbury, where 49-year-old Richard Darlington Smith of Salisbury was found shot multiple times while walking down the street.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit has taken the lead in the investigation, with assistance from Salisbury Police.

Authorities are reaching out to the community, particularly residents with external surveillance cameras along the North Division Corridor, including New Town, Johnson Lake, and Emmerson Avenue neighborhoods. They are urged to come forward with any footage from between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on the day of the shooting, February 16, 2024.
