ST. MARY’S COUNTY, MD – A fatal shed fire on Friday night in St. Mary’s County is under a joint investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office. The fire, which occurred just after 11:00 p.m., led to the death of a man believed to be the adult son of the homeowners. Firefighters from the Seventh District Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the scene at 37720 River Springs Road in Avenue following a report of the 8′ x 10′ shed being ablaze with a person possibly trapped inside.
Upon arrival, the firefighters managed to extinguish the fire in under 10 minutes. A deceased victim was found inside the shed and was subsequently transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore. The investigation aims to determine the exact cause of death and to positively identify the victim.
