Newark, NJ – The Newark Department of Public Safety has issued a traffic advisory in anticipation of snowfall expected to begin tonight and continue into tomorrow. Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé urges drivers to heed No Parking on Snow-Covered Roadways signs to facilitate clear streets for snow removal and emergency access.
Snow is forecasted to start at 10 p.m. tonight, lasting until 1 a.m., with an expected accumulation of 1 to 3 inches. Additional light snow is predicted before noon on Saturday, with snowfall continuing until 4 p.m.
Residents are reminded that it is illegal to shovel snow into the street. The advisory also includes precautions for securing outdoor items such as furniture and awnings, and recommends using flashlights instead of candles in the event of a power outage for fire safety reasons.
The Department of Public Safety, in coordination with Police, Fire, and Office of Emergency Management personnel, is prepared to respond to burglar alarms, potential flooding, and other incidents related to the weather conditions.
