Allegheny County Police Department Mourns the Loss of Retired Police Horse King

Allegheny County, PA – The Allegheny County Police Department announced the passing of King, a retired police horse that served with distinction in the department’s Mounted Unit for ten years before retiring in 2016. King, a 33-year-old thoroughbred originally bred for racing, was donated to the ACPD from a farm in Westmoreland County and became an integral part of the force.

Throughout his service, King played a significant role in numerous high-profile events, including the G20 Summit, a Super Bowl parade, Stanley Cup parade, and many other community engagements. His presence at these events underscored the unique bond between police horses and the communities they serve.

King spent his retirement at Round Hill Park, where he passed away overnight. His contributions to the Allegheny County Police Department and the community will not be forgotten. The department and all who knew King mourn his loss and celebrate his legacy of service.
