D.C. Man Shot and Killed, Suspect Accidentally Shoots Self During Melee

Temple Hills, MD – Prince George’s County Police Homicide Unit detectives have charged 36-year-old Estep Kyler Jr. of Largo in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in Temple Hills on the morning of Saturday, February 10.

The victim, 40-year-old Andrew Carnell Washington of Washington, DC, was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds.

The shooting happened at around 4:05 AM when officers were called to Iverson Street for a shooting report. Kyler was discovered on the 2300 block of Iverson Street with a gunshot wound. He informed officers about an altercation with Washington, his friend while sitting in a car in a parking lot on the 2400 block of Iverson Street, which led to the shooting.

Initial findings suggest Kyler shot Washington during the altercation and may have accidentally shot himself in the process. Kyler is currently hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and faces charges of first and second-degree murder among related offenses.

He will be transferred to the Department of Corrections following his hospital discharge.
