TOLEDO, OH – Eddie Lee Pope, a 51-year-old Detroit, Michigan resident, was handed a 20-year prison sentence on Monday by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Helmick. Pope faced charges stemming from his conviction in October of last year for possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.

Following his prison term, Pope is mandated to undergo ten years of supervised release. Additionally, he is ordered to contribute a $100 special assessment. This sentencing concludes the judicial process that began with Pope’s jury conviction for drug-related offenses.

The arrest of Pope was the result of a traffic stop by Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers on State Route 15 in Wyandot County for a traffic violation. Upon being stopped, Pope fled into nearby woods, abandoning a bag that was later found to contain a pound of crystal methamphetamine. At the time of his arrest, Pope was on parole and had a history of several prior drug trafficking convictions, highlighting a pattern of criminal behavior related to drug offenses.
