QUEENS, NY – In a joint operation, the Queens District Attorney’s Office and the New York Police Department have seized more than 40 illegal motorized scooters. This initiative, aimed at curbing scooter-related crimes and traffic incidents, was conducted in areas including Roosevelt Avenue and Long Island City.
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz highlighted the urgency of addressing the reckless use of these scooters, which have been involved in violent crimes and traffic violations.
A total of 43 scooters, mostly unregistered, were confiscated from high pedestrian traffic areas for illegal parking. Detectives from the District Attorney’s office, collaborating with NYPD officers from the 110th, 114th, and 115th units, executed searches in Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, Corona, and Long Island City.
This operation is part of ongoing efforts to remove illegal unregistered motorized scooters from Queens streets.
It follows a notable incident last year, where a Brooklyn man used a motorbike in a shooting spree in Queens, resulting in one fatality and two injuries.
