MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD – Montgomery County Department of Police officers have arrested William Fernando Calix, 31, and Christian Alexander Gonzalez, 18, following a theft at a Safeway store on Connecticut Avenue.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, around 1:06 p.m., when officers responded to a reported armed robbery.
Investigations revealed that Calix and Gonzalez attempted to steal merchandise. When confronted by a loss prevention officer, Calix displayed a knife, injuring the officer before fleeing with Gonzalez.
The suspects were later apprehended in the 3300 block of University Blvd. West, with the stolen merchandise recovered.
The injured loss prevention officer received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. Calix, charged with theft and first-degree assault, was released on a $10,000 unsecured personal bond. Gonzalez was charged with theft and released after receiving a criminal citation.
