Georgetown, DE – Delaware State Police are currently investigating a tragic hit and run crash that occurred on Saturday evening, leading to one fatality. The incident took place on February 3, around 10:12 p.m., involving multiple vehicles at the intersection of Wilson Road and Dupont Boulevard (US-113).
A silver Chevrolet Silverado, which was traveling westbound on Wilson Road, failed to stop at a red light and entered the intersection as a maroon Chevrolet HHR was heading northbound on Dupont Boulevard in the right lane, with a red Dodge Ram following in the left lane. Both the HHR and the Ram had the green light. The HHR collided with the left side of the Silverado, causing the Silverado to rotate and subsequently be hit by the Ram. Shortly after the collision, the HHR caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames.
The driver of the HHR was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are withholding the victim’s name until next of kin have been notified.
The 33-year-old driver of the Ram from Selbyville, Delaware, was reported not to have sustained any injuries. The individuals in the Silverado fled the scene following the crash.
As a result of the accident, Dupont Boulevard at the intersection with Wilson Road was closed for approximately three hours to allow for an investigation and clearance of the roadway.
