SOMERVILLE, N.J. – In a recent court proceeding, Edwin O. Dimas-Guerrero, 22, of Plainfield, N.J., was sentenced for his involvement in a high-speed police chase that occurred on October 24, 2022. Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr., and Watchung Borough Chief of Police Scott Anderle announced the sentencing.

On January 12, Dimas-Guerrero was sentenced by Judge Jonathan W. Romankow, J.S.C., to a three-year prison term. He faced charges including second-degree Eluding, fourth-degree Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, third-degree Criminal Mischief, third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and third-degree Hindering Apprehension. Additionally, he was ordered to pay $18,807.94 in restitution for damages caused to police vehicles and other properties.

The charges stem from Dimas-Guerrero’s reckless driving in Warren Township and Watchung Borough, where his actions endangered lives and caused significant damage.

The incident began when officers responded to reports of vehicles driving recklessly in Watchung. Dimas-Guerrero, driving a modified 2019 Dodge Charger without displayed license plates, fled upon noticing the police.

Despite multiple attempts by police to stop him, Dimas-Guerrero continued his dangerous driving, ultimately leading to collisions with multiple police vehicles and private property.
