JACKSON, NJ – Under new management since December, Shore News Network today announced it will be cutting ties with Reuters. The company chose Reuters as a leader in the global news service, however, a recent price increase and decline in U.S. relevant news has led to the decision to immediately stop syndication of the Reuters newsfeed.
“Reuters news is a cost-effective way to deliver national and international content to our readers, but we have found during the past year, our readers aren’t reading national news on our service,” said Christine Quigley, the new managing director for the online news site. “We are instead reallocating that expense and investing it into hiring more local news beat reporters in the New Jersey tri-state area.”
The company disclosed the majority of their readers are interested in unique, breaking local news, and readership on the national level has been on the decrease over the past year.
“We tried to see if we could find an agreement with Reuters to produce more regional content in the Mid-Atlantic, but could not reach a mutually beneficial plan to move forward,” Quigley added.
Quigley assumed the role of executive director of Shore Media and Marketing on December 1st, 2023 when founder and editor Phil Stilton stepped down from managing day-to-day operations at the company.
